Solidarity with Wuhan, China and Italy

Just as water connects us all, the current situation as CoVid-19 sweeps across the globe shows us just how closely we are all interconnected and co-dependent.

The Global Water Museums Network exemplifies this. The City of Wuhan has hosted major international water conferences in 2018 and 2019 and was due to host the 3rd Great Rivers Forum this year. The Network’s 4th annual conference this year was due to be held in Hangzhou, China. Our head office is in Venice, Italy.

We wish to send our support to our colleagues in China and Italy and to all those dealing with the current outbreak worldwide. We are connected, we stand together.

This beautiful poster was created by our Italian colleagues in support of our colleagues in Wuhan and China. We support you all. Stay strong.

Water & Gender Equality

As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we take time to remember and advocate for people worldwide who do not have access to clean, safe water and sanitation. Millions of people spend many hours daily to fulfil the basic needs of their families. These are predominantly women and girls who, in order to do this work, are denied opportunities for education, self-development and other work which would empower them and improve the quality of their lives and the lives of their families and communities.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals are intrinsically linked. For example, access to clean water (SDG6) is essential to tackle poverty (SDG1) and hunger (SDG2) as well as for improving health & well-being (SDG3), education (SDG4) and, notably today, for gender equality (SDG5).

Giving people access to clean water and sanitation transforms lives. The Water of Museum of Ireland and the Global Network of Water Museums are committed to supporting the implementation of the SDGs.
